When I was young I had a dream.

I wanted to be a wood carver and carpenter. Only a little bit because of Jesus. Mostly because I liked the feel and smell of wood, and enjoyed making stuff.

Then I wanted to be an elf. I spent hours learning elvish from my hobbit book.

Then an astronaut.

An archaeologist.

A wildlife photographer.

An explorer / mountain climber.

A particle physicist.

A rock star.

A maths teacher.

An engineer (building bridges).

A race car designer.

A philosopher.

A powerlifter.

A car mechanic.

A plumber.

A truck driver.

And probably a thousand other dreams I can’t even remember.

Then I grew up and became an accountant.

Since then, my fleeting attention has generally been directed towards hobbies rather than entire life choices. Drumming, rugby, parenting techniques, knitting, reusable nappies, decluttering, dressmaking, gardening, plumbing, dog training…
