I remember one session I was trying to explain my struggles with keeping on top of basic household tasks, and the anxiety this was causing me. And she told me to try writing lists and went on and on about meal planning. Like I’d never thought of that. I didn’t go back. I’ve since been diagnosed with ADHD.
There’s nothing less helpful than feeling judged by a therapist, or worse that they are shocked and overwhelmed by my story and I need to try and manage their feelings. “Wow you really have been through a lot.” No shit, that’s why I’m here…
